Common Situations We Handle
Wherever Your Tax Situation Falls, We Can Help
Most personal returns fall into one of a few common categories. Here's a plain-English look at what each one usually involves.
W-2 Employees
Often the most straightforward return, though it's still worth reviewing whether itemizing deductions makes sense for you.
Self-Employed & 1099 Contractors
Files Schedule C, and typically needs quarterly estimated tax payments to avoid a surprise bill.
Rental Property Owners
Files Schedule E, with rental income, expenses, and depreciation tracked for each property.
Investors
Capital gains, dividends, and (increasingly) crypto transactions, reported accurately on Schedule D and B.

Tax Planning Add-On
Want Ongoing Planning, Not Just an Annual Return?
Tax preparation looks back at the year that already happened. Tax planning looks ahead, so decisions get made while there's still time to act on them, not after the year is already closed.
- Quarterly estimated tax check-ins, if you're self-employed or have significant non-wage income
- A withholding review, so you're not surprised by a big bill or a huge refund
- A conversation before a major life event, a home sale, retirement, or a new job, while decisions can still be made
- A place to ask "should I do this?" before you do it, not after it's already on last year's return
Tax Planning Add-On
Starting at
$150 / quarter
Can be added to any tax preparation engagement. Final pricing depends on your situation and how involved you'd like the planning conversations to be.

Common Questions About Individual Tax Preparation
What tax situations do you handle?
We prepare returns for W-2 employees, self-employed individuals and 1099 contractors, rental property owners, and investors. If your situation is a mix of several of these, that's common, and it's exactly what the free consultation is for.
How much does individual tax preparation cost?
Fixed fees start at $350 for a simple W-2 return and increase based on your income sources and complexity. You'll always know your fee before any work begins.
Do you also offer tax planning, or just preparation?
Both. Tax preparation covers your annual return. Tax planning is available separately as an add-on, quarterly estimated tax check-ins, a withholding review, and a conversation before a major life event, so decisions get made while there's still time to act on them.
What if I'm self-employed or have 1099 income?
Self-employment income is reported on Schedule C, and usually requires quarterly estimated tax payments throughout the year. We calculate those for you as part of your return, so you're not caught off guard the following April.
What if I haven't filed in a year or two?
That's more common than people think, and it's fixable. We can help you get caught up, one year at a time, and talk through any next steps if the IRS has already reached out.
What if I need more time to file?
We're glad to file an extension on your behalf. An extension gives you more time to file, though any tax owed is still due by the original deadline, and we'll help you estimate that amount.
How does the process work, start to finish?
We start with a free consultation, send you a document checklist, prepare your return, review it carefully, and e-file once you've had a chance to review and approve it. Most returns take about 1 to 2 weeks once we have your complete documents.
Do I need to sign a long-term contract?
No. Tax preparation is engaged on a per-return basis. There's no ongoing contract required, though many clients choose to return year after year once they know what to expect.
